    http://experiencelife.com/article/follow-your-dream/

This article relates to the book Thoreau At Walden by John Porcellino. It relates because in this book the main message that the author is trying to show is that people should follow their dreams instead of living in an unhappy way. In the article it talks about how people should follow their dreams instead of living in an unhappy way. All in all, if you follow your dream you will be happier and you will live in a healthier way.

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/15/us/new-york-college-admission-sabotage/index.html?iref=allsearch

In Horace Mann School in Manhattan, a student sent in an application letter, with the intention of purposely sabotaging another student in order to prevent them from gaining admission to the college. This article relates to The Hardy Boys because in the book, Joelle is sabotaging the competition by attacking students and preventing them from winning, just like how the student sent in the letter trying to stop someone else from going to a college.

    Maximum Ride (4):
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/10/growing-new-ears-_n_1871318.html

In this article, it talks about how scientists have been able to grow human ears on the back of lab rats. In the Maximum Ride graphic novel, scientists had mutated the flock’s DNA and made them grow wings, and have other powers. These two connect because in the book people have wings, and in the article it talks about how they have grown ears on lab rats.

In 2010 winter Olympics up in Canada there were many blue-eyed huskies that took tourists on sleds into the wilderness. After the tourists went home an employee of Outdoor Adventures Whistler killed at least 70 dogs over two days. This connects back to the book “The Call of the Wind” by Jack London’s because many dogs were killed from hunger and they both took place up in Canada.

    http://www.mrpresentation.com/the-things-we-believe-control-our-lives/

This article relates to the book Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi. It relates because in the book it shows that there are these stones worn by the people. It shows that the stones control their lives by telling them what to do. In the article it is saying that in the world our lives are controlled on the things we believe are true, the things we believe are false, and the things we haven’t believed as true of false. All in all, there are things in life that control us that we need to be careful about and try to avoid them.

This current event article that I found in the Los Angeles Times online relates to “Cat Burglar Black” one of the graphic novels. It relates because the article is about how people who grow up in institutions are more likely to have problems when they are older because it hurts children’s brain development. In the graphic novel that I read the main character K. Westree is an orphan and has been growing up in institutions all her life and she is involved in robbery.

This current event article that is on the CNN website connects to the graphic novel “Foiled” that I read in class. The article is about a 14 year old girl that lives in Taliban who is a fearful advocate for girl’s education. The Taliban find her very threating because many young women look up to here and find her an amazing role model. Aliera in “Foiled” is a role model also to her disabled cousin that she visits every Saturday and plays a fantasy game with her. Her cousin looks up to her and thinks that Aliera is the prettiest and strongest girl she knows even though Aliera does not think so.

They hope that by injecting the DNA into elephant embryos that a mutation will occur making a wooly mammoth replica. This relates to the book Maximum Ride #2 by James Patterson because everyone in the flock has been injected by avian DNA and they have grown wings on their back that allow them to fly.

This article describes how life is in China now with the smog problem. The air quality has heavily decreased and is slowly damaging peoples lungs by causing buildup of smog. People who are affected by this disaster have spoken and are very mad and upset. The government is now stepping in and spending billions of dollars installing air purifiers throughout China. This article relates to Little White Duck by Na Liu and Andres Vera Martinez because that book was about life in China during a certain period in time. This article is about China currently, and like the book it explains what the people of the nation are going through.

In the graphic novel, Maximum Ride, a text to world connection is that on CNN their was an article, "Bullying among boys easily dismissed?", about how some people have been just dismissing bullying for boys because they think they're just being boys. Well the article just debates about how people have different opinions on the topic, but this current event connects to Maximum Ride because Ari, an Eraser, bullies one of the members of the Flock, Fang. Of course, Ari is much worse than a bully because he beats on Fang multiple times that should've killed Fang.

In the graphic novel, Artemis Fowl, a text to world connection is the current event about a ship that sank during Sandy, but its about a message in a bottle being found. Yet, the connection is that Artemis Fowl's dad died supposedly died in a ship wreck while away at home. Even though the message in the bottle did not occur in Artemis Fowl the ship sinking still is relevant to the graphic novel.

This article relates to the book Defiance. They both have courage and bravery in them. In the article, Malala was shot in the head, but that didn't stop her from standing for what she believes in. She is fighting for girls and women to be able to get a better education. Malala isn't afraid to do anything, which make the Taliban people/men afraid of her. It is a very courageous thing that she is doing. In Defiance, Paul shows courage throughout the whole book. He rebels against the Germans, drawing embarrassing pictures of them. Also, he runs away from home to rebel against the Germans, which leads him to live in mountains.

The Last Dragon by Jane Yolen.
The Last Dragon and this article are related to each other. In this article, archaeologists found a Roman sculpture of an eagle. In its mouth there was a serpent. This article is related to The Last Dragon because they both find something new. In the book, Tansy is in the woods with her dad, while she finds the dragon bane. She doesn’t know what it is at first, so she touches it. Her father says that dragon bane is just a myth, which relates to the article. It relates because Tansy doesn’t know what dragon bane is, which means it was existent a long time ago. The sculpture was built a long time ago, as well.
